| It is intended to be taken by aviation personnel who work as international pilots, air traffic controllers, and aeronautical operators. It was designed to comply with the ICAO language-proficiency testing requirements. |
| The EPTA is composed of tape-mediated questions and a personal interview. |
| The EPTA is a specialized test designed to contain 100% aviation-specific materials, topics and situations. It assesses the speaking and listening ability of the examinee through his responses to various work-related situations and conditions presented. |
The recorded speech sample of the examinee is evaluated based on the following criteria:
Pronunciation, Structure, Vocabulary, Fluency, Comprehension, and Interaction. |
| There are two (2) versions of the EPTA, one for pilots, and the other one for air traffic controllers (ATCs). Each version of the EPTA consists of two (2) parts: a tape-mediated section and a face-to-face interview section. Each part consists of various tasks which are arranged in order of difficulty, starting with the easiest task and ending with the hardest task. All of the tasks contain various aviation-related topics or situations that are of four (4) different kinds: picture-based, topic-based, situation-based, and rendering communications-based. The candidate is required to listen, analyze and respond to questions and/or to give required information. These responses are recorded on audio cassettes for later rating. The test can be completed in about approximately forty (40) minutes and is administered on an individual basis. |
