About G-TELP Philippines
MISSION AND VISION

G-TELP Philippines is an educational venture which aims to improve Standard English proficiency in the country. It is mainly targeted to Filipino students, teachers and members of the Filipino workforce as well as foreign students living in the Philippines.
English, being one of the official languages in the Philippines, is used in government, business and commerce, the media, and, for the most part, the Philippine educational system. While communication in the language is still feasible between and among Filipinos, the case can be quite different when other Anglophones around the world are concerned.
English, by virtue of its being a global language, has been adopted by many countries around the world. However, as what can naturally happen when a society acquires a language, its speakers will infuse into it their own linguistic idiosyncrasies, hence, the birth of different varieties of the language. Given that the Philippines is one of those countries which has adopted English as an everyday language, a variety of it exists in the country today.
As the English spoken here in the Philippines continues to deviate from the internationally understood Standard English, communication with the rest of the English-speaking world is increasingly becoming difficult. As a result, the Filipinos¡¯ ability to handle back-office administrative work and verbal inquiries from their North American customers, clients and counterparts has been seriously affected.
As the Philippines claims to be the third largest English-speaking country in the world after the United States and Great Britain, it is quite ironic that a number of Filipinos entering into the workforce are deemed unqualified due to their inadequate Standard English skills.
Thus, it is quite clear that in order to compete globally, there is an undeniable need to raise the levels of Standard English proficiency in the country. This could be done by equipping English learners in the country with the linguistic skills, knowledge and tools needed to be productive members of their schools and the workplace.
